The List, The top 5 of top 5's

Because I get asked by both friends and randons about this I decided to put it out there, with the collective thoughts of all us combined, captain planet we will be.so here are my list of top 5's.enjoy them..
TOP 5 GIGS..
5, Killswitch engage - 2006. Studio. Amazing, everything i wanted to see and hear, awesome fun
4, Slipknot (side of stage) Big Day Out 2005. After hanging out with the band for a day before the show, I was amped to see them, standing under the speakers right next to clowns drum kit was one amazing day, and hard to beat, but...
3, Lamb Of God 2007.Powerstation. recent I know, but with the few bands i have seen in this venue (powerstation) they have either had to small a crowd for audiance participation, or to many where everyone is pushing around all set.Lamb Of God had the place fill to the gills, but what participation, from Randy starting to try a haka on stage to his crowd surfing to the sing alongs, i think its gonna be a while before anyone tops them in the powerstation..
2, Mastodon, 2007. St James. Yes they didnt play for long. Yes its very recent also.BUT as soon as i heard these guys where coming i didnt care, i was amped, fuck slayer, i was all about seeing these dudes, and they didnt disappoint, from playing iron tusk (my fave song ) to megalodon and then closing with blood and thunder, this will be a hard gig to top for the year for me.
!, Rage Against The Machine, 1996 Big Day Out.I highly doubt i will see a show that will top this set, playing just as the rain started to pour down like i had never seen in a january, these guy opened with bullet in the head, never slowed down, played every song off their first cd and then thanked us and left again, never to return.awesome, singing killing in the name of back at zach de ya rocha in pouring rain was a defining moment for me.

TOP 5 BAND DVD'S
5, Give Em the boot (compilation) this ranks because its the closest thing to a rancid dvd and it got me into Nekromantix
4, Lamb Of God - Killadelphia. The live show is Brilliant, and all the behind the scenes footage is pretty funny especially the Mark Morton/ Randy Blythe fight.
3, Slipknot - Disasterpeices. I brought this a little while after seeing them at bdo and the live show is wicked, I have lot count of the ammount of times Corey calls the crowd fuckers, but its an amazing live set.
2, Killswitch Engage- Set This World Ablaze. Awesome live set, all the bands videos up to The End Of Heartache cd, and a 1 1/2 hour doco on the history of the band, wicked stuff, wicked value for money!
1, Mastodon - The Workhorse Chronicles.this is the best because the live set goes forever, the music videos are amazing, and the documentary about the forming of the band is funny and gives you a good insight on how a band can come from nowhere, and kick nine kinds of ass!
TOP 5 SONGS SEEN PERFORMED LIVE
5, Lamb Of God - Redneck.Amazing song, crowd went apeshit. nuff said!
4, Sillhouette - Thrice. My fave song by this band and to hear it, when i never thought this band would come to NZ was a dream come true! I sung along to each word so happy.
3, Spit It Out - Slipknot. Watching these guys work the crowd to a frenzy and then get them to crouch for this was wicked, also being on the stage and seeing terrified faces in the front row who knew what was coming..
2, Iron Tusk - Mastodon. Not much to say, my fave song and they played it like it was the last time they would. I was in awe for days...
1, Bullet In The Head - Rage Against The Machine.Best song on the day, by the best live act I have ever seen.
TOP 5 NICEST BANDS I HAVE MET.
5, Mastodon, Ok, I was a bit intimidated by meeting these dudes, and for anyone who knows me thats a rarity, i didnt weird out when i met Metallica, but blushed like a little kid when i met these dudes. Really friendly and polite guys.
4, Lamb Of God, Met Randy, and Willie after the show on the night of the gig, getting to see 3 big Maori boys give him a haka around the back of the Powerstation afterwards was pretty trippy, next day i went to the hotel, chatted to all of the band got my shit signed and the pics and was so stoked i had done it.
3, Killswitch Engage. This was also quite a humbling experience, as i had loved this band for about 3 years by the time they came here. howard was hillarious and i made a joke about eating handicapped to adam d. fun times, he even took it in his stride as drunk Travis licked his face... haha hardcore kid aids..
2, Avenged Sevenfold. These guys were met under dubious circumstanes as me and raggles called the hotel and lied to the staff who duelly told us they were there. after meeting the band raggles was getting their sigs tattooed on himself, so we went back to the hotel to show them. m shadows (singer) cracked his voice with excitement as he saw his writing tattooed on a fan. awesome dudes!
1, Slipknot. I doubt i will get to hang out with a band this nice again. from hanging out with Sid (dj) and going record shopping to burger king with joey (drummer) along with the hate breed boys, so laughing about house music with paul and mick in a random backpackers bar where sid was djing on his birthday, to the birthday card me and some kids signed and gave to him.just an amazing bunch of dudes.TOP 5 DREAM GIGS
5, Glassjaw - never seen em, would love to.
4, Machine Head - same as above, have loved MH for years.
3, Mastodon - would love to see them do their own show!
2, Bleeding Through - amazing band, seen the dvd, have the shirt, just need the live experience for myself now..
1, Rancid - Saw them very briefly at Big Day Out 1996 after RATM had finished and dont remember much of their set, which is a pity due to how much I love this band.
TOP 5 GIGS THAT WONT HAPPEN.
5 - Sublime
4 - Bob Marley
3 - Faith No More
2 - Nirvana
1 - Pantera
(not much needs to be said there...)
And thats it. There are probably more in the top 5 lists that can be done, I feel better for writing it, I hope you enjoy my memories as much as I do.
